Baki Hanma’s Training at Yasha Creek: Would it Actually Work?

Baki vs Yasha Ape

Welcome to another episode of the Training Breakdown series! As teased in the previous episode, in which we discussed Batman's training, we are now moving on to Baki Hanma—more specifically, Baki Hanma from his youthful days!

We covered Baki Hanma's workout routine a couple of months back. This article will focus more on his mountain training.

Let's kick off the next episode of this series with Baki's training at Yasha Creek!

Baki's Training Regimen

At Yasha Creek, Baki went through a training regimen that sharpened his mind more than anything. He went full-on monk mode since he was training solo as well.

Here are some components that went into his training arc:

Baki's Endurance Training

This aspect of his training included muscular and cardiovascular endurance. Baki's endurance training involved sprinting with resistance, martial arts, and high-rep calisthenics.

This was all done at a mountain, which ultimately resulted in an adaptive mind-muscle connection. Navigating a mountain, running through countless obstacles, and enduring extreme weather conditions is what it means to truly go into monk mode.

His endurance training also involved working beyond his limits, achieving constant endorphin activations to fortify his mind. This means tapping into a greater level of strength and awareness. Think of it as a more realistic version of ultra instinct, but only achievable with constantly risking your life (which we won’t do).

Baki's Strength Training

Baki's strength training came from strict bodyweight and real-world strength training. Baki went from training his muscles to training movements - the main focus being explosive power with sprints and woodchopping, climbing, and other forms of resistance training.

As mentioned earlier, The main priority was building transferable performance and adaptive strength!

In summary, Baki's training regimen was focused on building real-world strength and mental fortitude to take on the Yasha ape. This training arc wasn't necessarily about how strong he could get but how far past his limits he was willing to push himself. He would soon test this theory by jumping off of a cliff to see if his fight-or-flight response would help him survive the free fall.

Baki's Training Results

Baki made an insane amount of results in just three months of training!

Let's go over some of the ones that stand out the most.

Baki's Mastery of Body and Mind

Through constant endorphin release and strength training, Baki managed to master the balance between body and mind. Through disciplined practice and consistency, he achieves a state of harmony where his physical responses become more instinctual. This mastery basically developed a strong mind-muscle connection, giving his body the ability to think for itself.

Baki's Strength and Speed

Baki became enhanced in all performance fields —strength, speed, and power. The greatest testimony to this training is how he greatly increased his adaptability.

Ultimately, this was enough to defeat the Yasha ape, something his father, Yujiro, could do easily.

Baki Hanma's Muscle Development

As a result of his training, Baki got incredibly jacked, gaining an incredible amount of mass over three months.

This training arc is nostalgically valuable when watching this show. It quickly became one of the best Baki arcs in the entire series.

Let's find out if this training approach will work for someone trying to attempt it in real life.

Would Baki's Training Work in Real Life?

Would Baki's training work if attempted in real life?

In short, it really depends on what your goals are.

If your goal is building lean muscle, achieving adaptive strength, prioritizing functionality over build, and increasing performance, then yes—Baki's training will work in real life. The only things that wouldn't work in this case are jumping off cliffs and climbing hundred-foot ropes. But other than that, Baki's training approach is very realistic in a real-life sense.

For those who want to strictly increase their size, maybe not. The downside to this training would have to be the lack of progressive overload. For the sake of size, consider weight training. You can find a bunch of workouts in our Anime Training series.

Closing Thoughts

Baki trained his hardest to conquer Yasha Creek and succeeded. From training to activate endorphins to intense bodyweight training and an insane caloric deficit, his drive to get stronger required uncomfortable conditions and life-risking training methods.

While Baki's extreme training could be more realistic and shouldn't be done, the foundation of his mountain training is still approachable.
